Well, i guess it's not the beginning, but for the purposes of this blog it is. I figure it's a good idea to have a place to journal my pregnancy with all it's ups, downs and everything in between. Here goes..
On April 11th, the day of the Yankees home opener, I found out I was pregnant. I took a test early that morning. Being such a monumental day, the yankee home opener, I knew I'd be drinking like a thirsty sailor, and figured, while i didn't think I was pregnant, I'd just double check. Well much to my surprise and excitement. POSITIVE! And so was the next one and the next one. Yes, I took 3 tests that morning, much to Pete's prodding.
I went to the doctor on the following Thursday, April 20th and we saw a single little happy gestational sack. I was scheduled to return 2 weeks later for another U/S to make sure that things were progressing properly and being that that would be approximately 8 weeks, Pete came along cause we were expecting to hear the heartbeat!
We went to my appointment on May 4th and went in for the Ultrasound. Pete was extremely freaked out by the Internal Ultrasound equipment... AKA Dildo ultrasound, but he was good and got over it quickly. As we were watching the screen the tech asked us whether this was our first child and we said Yes. She said "OK, well.. There are 2." As you can imagine. We. Freaked. Out. There were many tears (of Joy) and many "Holy Shits" and "Jesus Christs" (sorry about that god). We saw and heard BOTH heartbeats that day and were informed that because of the fact that there had originally been only 1 sack and that they were still seemingly undivided in 1 sack, they were likely identical. Problem being they did NEED to be separated and hopefully a thin membrane would form soon.
Our next appointment was Monday May 22nd. Again Pete joined me. The FIRST thing we saw in the ultrasound was that the Membrane formed! What a releif! This time we saw and heard heartbeats but we also saw "Baby A" wiggling around and shaking her booty... It was so exhilarating. What a surreal experience! Once again we were told that both babies look great, and healthy and all my levels etc. are perfect. Next appt. with my doctor, Monday July 3rd.
On June 7th, i was scheduled to meet with a genetic counselor and the high risk docs. They were to do the Downs syndrome test and check my cervix. Pete could not join me this time, so Alicia did. Let me say in advance, she was on her BEST behavior. I was very impressed. The genetic counselor was very thorough and interesting and I was glad to have Alicia with me, because she remembered many things I didn't. Then came the tests. First of all, for this ultrasound BOTH babies were sleeping. Baby A was in good position so she did the measurement portion of the Downs test and it was small (which is what you want). Baby B was not cooperating so we had to wake them up by me flopping around and shaking my torso. Eventually they BOTH woke up and while we did get Baby B's measurement (also small) we also got to see them both going crazy. Kicking each other and spazzing out. They took a bunch of blood and are running tests for Te Sachs and Cystic fibroses, i won't have those results for a couple of weeks. The downs blood test i'll have tomorrow.
Much to our surprise the tech told us that while it is early, and we should not paint the nursery or buy wardrobes yet... She thinks they are GIRLS!! I'm very excited. Pete while a little dissapointed, is very happy they are both healthy and is coming around quickly to the idea of girls. He now asks me all the time "how his girls are".. I think he's just really scared of 2 teenage daughters...
I'll attach the pictures later, not working right now..
I will update when i have more to share..
